Last time I wrote about making applesauce (not on this blog) I had people asking for my recipe, but I never wrote it down! So this time I made sure to pay attention to exactly what I was using! So here it is!
Stephanie Homemade Applesauce
3 Tbsp Organic Raw Blue Agave Sweetner
2 Tbsp Water
2 tsp Cinnamon (optional)
20 small apples peeled/cored/sliced
I started out by putting the sweetener, water and cinnamon in the bottom of my pan. I heated it on a low heat and mixed all together. Then I got out my apple peeler (a must have for this) and started peeling away. As I completed one or two I threw them into the mixture and stirred making sure to coat the in the mixture of sweetener and cinnamon. The apples I used this time were Gala and what I would consider small. (I used Figi apples last time and they worked fine too). Once all the apples are done and in I just let this simmer on low. I didn't pay attention to the exact amount of time but I left them on low for at least an hour possibly a little longer. Really all you need to do is pay attention to when they are all soft and mashable. I know some people use their potato masher or their mixer for the next step but am too lazy....I just throw them in my Ninja blender. (I will say my Ninja is a recent purchase and prior to this I just had a cheapo off brand blender. It is possible to use those successfully but the line between applesauce and baby food is a thin one so beware if using a regular blender that you don't over process). When in my Ninja I can hit pulse about 3 times and they are done. Use you own judgement on what you want texture wise!
I have also used this recipe minus the blending at the end to pour over pork chops or ham. Enjoy!
